Humberto Bandenay suffers injury, withdraws from UFC Sydney bout with Alexander Volkanovski

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Bravo vs Bandenay Miguel Tovar-USA TODAY Sports

Peru’s Humberto Bandenay won’t be competing at next week’s UFC event.

The featherweight prospect suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from his bout with Alexander Volkanovski at UFC Sydney. The news was first reported on Tuesday by MMA Junkie and was later confirmed by MMA Fighting.

The UFC is currently seeking a replacement opponent for Volkanovski.

Bandenay told MMA Fighting that it was a fractured right wrist that didn’t allow him to compete in his second UFC bout. The 23-year-old fighter made his UFC debut on short notice last August at UFC Mexico City (UFC Fight Night 114) where he knocked out The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3 winner Martin Bravo. Bandenay is currently 14-4 in his MMA career and trains out of Team Oyama in California.

UFC Sydney is scheduled to take place on Nov. 18 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. A heavyweight showdown between former UFC champ Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura will serve as the main event of the card.
