ONE Championship atomweight star Angela Lee star has been removed from an upcoming title defense after being involved in a car accident.

Lee was scheduled to rematch Mei Yamaguchi in the main event of a ONE show on Nov. 24 in Kallang, Singapore, but CEO Chatri Sityodtong broke the news of the accident and Lee’s subsequent withdrawal on Facebook:

ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee got into a terrible car accident yesterday with her car flipping over 5-6x...

According to Sityodtong’s post, Lee’s car flipped over five or six times after she fell asleep while driving. Fortunately, it appears that she walked away with only “a concussion, some minor burns, and a banged up body.”

Rob DeMello of KHON News in Oahu, Hawaii tweeted out an image of Lee’s vehicle:

The 21-year-old Lee was looking for her third consecutive title defense after defeating Yamaguchi via five-round unanimous decision for the vacant belt back in May 2015. Lee is 8-0 as professional.

It is not known if ONE officials are seeking a replacement opponent for Yamaguchi. The Nov. 24 currently has one other title fight booked that would presumably become the new main event, with welterweight champion Ben Askren (17-0) competing in his retirement bout vs. Shinya Aoki (39-7).

Lee’s father, Ken, released a statement to KHON2:

My daughter was in a very serious accident yesterday. It is truly a miracle that she survived. We are so blessed that God laid his hand of protection over her.

Angela’s car hit a guardrail on the highway. The axle snapped and the car flipped 5-6 times over 100 yards and landed on the opposite side of the highway, according to the police.

Our family would like to thank everyone for your sincere thoughts and prayers. Angela is now at home recovering and will be okay.
