This is the UFC 217 live blog for Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre, a middleweight championship bout at Saturday night's UFC event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y.

Former welterweight champion St-Pierre returns from a four-year hiatus to attempt to take the middleweight title from Bisping - owner of the most wins in UFC history - in the evening’s main event.

Round 1: “Big” John McCarthy on hand to oversee this massive main event. Exchange of jabs early, “GSP” with an inside leg kick. Overhand right by St-Pierre lands, but Bisping connects too. Spin kick by St-Pierre misses. Bisping ducks a charging St-Pierre and gets him with a counter-left. Quick head kick by St-Pierre. Leg kick lands for GSP, then he scores with a right hand. Bisping backs him up with a right of his own. He’s not letting St-Pierre push the pace without taking some damage. A minute left, St-Pierre goes for his first takedown, snags a single leg and puts Bisping down against the cage. There’s less than 15 seconds of control before Bisping is back up. Superman punch by St-Pierre puts Bisping off-balance, though he doesn’t look too hurt.

Round 2: St-Pierre beating Bisping to the punch to start the second frame. Bisping with a counter-punch. Jab to the body by GSP, then a side kick to the same spot. Bisping catches a leg and lands a left hook. Jab-leg kick combo by GSP. Big right hand by Bisping lands on St-Pierre’s chin. He’s coming forward with more confidence now, but just misses an uppercut. Counter-jab by St-Pierre as the action settles back down. GSP goes for another single leg takedown and gets it. He’s in half-guard. Bisping is able to power his way up. Right hand by Bisping. The champ is looking steady now and St-Pierre is having a tough time getting in.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Bisping. Overall, 19-19.

Round 3: Bisping going into the third round with a damaged cup. St-Pierre gets a takedown right away and this time he’s working from guard. Bisping very active from the bottom, throwing elbows. St-Pierre focusing on control, not ground-and-pound. Bisping landing with a lot of elbows from the bottom and St-Pierre is bloodied up. Straight right by Bisping. Blood flowing down St-Pierre’s face. Right hand by GSP, he stays cautious. Side kick to the body by GSP. Left hand by St-Pierre drops Bisping and he dives right in, smashing Bisping with elbows from full guard! Bisping gives up his back and St-Pierre sinks in the choke. Bisping refuses to tap and he goes to sleep. St-Pierre wins the UFC middleweight title and he has now become a champion in two divisions.
