UFC 217 results: James Vick finishes Joseph Duffy in last second of second round

James Vick is not going to be denied in his rise up the lightweight ranks.

The Ft. Worth, Texas native hasn’t been given the fast track, but he’s defeated nearly everyone who has been put in his path.

Ireland’s Joseph Duffy was the latest to be finished by Vick on Saturday night, as a late flurry in the second round brought an end to their UFC 217 bout at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The time of the knockout victory was 4:59.

Duffy pushed the pace in the early going, moving forward and relying on his boxing background to land his fair share of shots.

Vick, however, got stronger as the fight went along, landing kicks high and low as Duffy slowed during the second. Vick sucked Duffy into a giant right uppercut which dropped him, then rained down punches before referee Todd Anderson waved the fight off.

With the victory, Vick improved to 12-1, 8-1 in the UFC. Four of his past five wins have been finishes.

“Hat’s off to Duffy, he should be top 15, but he fought me, unlike all those guys in the top 15 who won’t fight me,” said Vick, who later added: “I’m 8-1 in the UFC and these guys don’t want to fight me. How many 8-1 guys aren’t ranked?”

Duffy (17-3) had a two-fight win streak snapped.
