The feud between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Rose Namajunas has grown in intensity with every week that passes by in the lead-up to their fight, and it sounds like there’s been some collateral damage.

At the UFC 217 ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday, the UFC strawweight champion mentioned that Namajunas’s fiance, former heavyweight MMA fighter Pat Barry, called one of her associates a “bitch” and she elaborated on that incident as well and clarified recent comments she’d made about Namaunas’ mental state in a media scrum backstage (h/t to TSN).

“Something bad happened. At the press conference, which we had last week on the phone, I said that she’s mentally unstable,” Jedrzejczyk said. “What I was meaning is that she is mentally weak, I didn’t know her story about her father.

“As you know, I never talk about family members, about team members, what I heard is that Pat Barry said yesterday to one of the women from my team that she’s a - so sorry for saying that - ‘bitch.’ It was just disrespectful, and they all want me to look bad but look what’s happening right now.”

According to Jedrzejczyk, Barry’s words were directed at one of her assistants. Jedrzejczyk was asked how she felt about Namajunas appearing to be emotional when speaking to the media herself, but the defending champion disregarded the question and went back to criticizing Barry.

“I don’t care if she did that,” Jedrzejczyk said. “Pat Barry said bad things to my teammate, to Team Joanna, and the thing is I was training with Ernesto Hoost in Amsterdam, Pat Barry was a part of the team, he’s the biggest (expletive) there is in the martial arts. So sorry for saying this, I cannot be more respectful to my opponents, but they don’t get this.”

“You cannot do this,” Jedrzejczyk continued. “Here, it was yesterday when I was cutting my weight. You cannot say to the woman a word like this because you are not a gentleman and you are not a human if you say this to a woman.”

Barry will be in Namajunas’s corner when she challenges Jedrzejczyk for the UFC strawweight championship on the main card of UFC 217 on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y.
