If the potential UFC welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz goes down, the odds will be stacked against the challenger and returning Stockton native.

Champion Woodley would be a sizable favorite against Diaz in a bout that the UFC is trying to put together for UFC 219 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas. Rumors swirled that the two could fight Tuesday and MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported that Woodley vs. Diaz is one of the ideas the UFC has for its big year-end card.

Per the sports book Bovada, Woodley, the welterweight champion, opened as a -260 favorite over Diaz, a +200 underdog.

Diaz, 32, has not fought since falling to Conor McGregor by majority decision at UFC 202 in August 2016. In their first bout at UFC 196, which Diaz won by second-round submission, he was an even bigger underdog than he is now in a potential fight with Woodley. Diaz was +258 heading into UFC 196.

Woodley, 35, was a smaller favorite against Demian Maia (-210) and an underdog in his two title defenses against Stephen Thompson. Woodley was a +200 underdog when he knocked out Robbie Lawler last year to take the belt.

There is no current deal in place for Woodley vs. Diaz, but both fighters have intimated on social media that they are training for UFC 219.
