It wasn’t the most artistic victory of his career, but Andrei Arlovski is back in the win column.
The former UFC heavyweight champion was patient and methodical against Brazil’s Junior Albini on Saturday night. The approach paid off in a unanimous decision at UFC Norfolk, earning a 29-28 and a pair of 30-27s.
The Belarus native, who recently switched camps to American Top Team, took a patient approach in the opening round against Albini, who was wearing odd attire that most of MMA Twitter called a diaper. Arlovski found his footing and rhythm in round two, pushing forward, landing strikes and winning in the clinch. He picked up the pace further in the third, outstriking his foe by a 2-to-1 margin.
The victory was Arlovski’s 15th in the Octagon, putting him one shy of Frank Mir’s UFC heavyweight record.
Albini (14-3) drops to 1-1 in the UFC.
