Clay Guida and Joe Lauzon have a combined 22 years UFC experience, but despite spending most of that time in the same division, they didn’t cross paths until Saturday night.
After all that buildup, the bout lasted barely more than a minute.
Guida rocked Lauzon with a huge uppercut and finished the job soon thereafter, earning his 34th career win in his 25th UFC fight. The time of the stoppage at UFC Norfolk was 1:07 of the opening round.
“I’m have more fun in this sport since the day I started,” Guida said. “So I want to keep it going, guys.”
After dropping Lauzon with the uppercut, Lauzon did his best to clear the cobwebs, but simply couldn’t shake himself of Guida. Guida was raining down uncontested elbows when the bout was finally waved off.
After the fight, the well-traveled Guida, who now trains at Team Alpha Male, announced it was the final bout of his UFC contract, then asked the crowd if they wanted him to finish his career in the UFC. The longtime fan favorite was met with a thunderous roar.
It was the second straight win for Guida (34-17), who win via finish for the first time since a submission of Takanori Gomi at UFC 125.
Lauzon (27-14) has dropped two straight and three of four.
