Well, UFC superstar Conor McGregor is not only beefing with fellow fighters, but also MMA officials.
On Friday at the Bellator 187 show in Dublin, McGregor stormed the cage to celebrate his teammate Charlie Ward’s first-round knockout win over John Redmond. The Irishman had no right to be in the cage, as he was not licensed to corner his teammate and have cage access.
When Bellator officials attempted to remove McGregor off the cage, things got a little dicey. The UFC lightweight champ got in referee Marc Goddard’s face and shoved him. McGregor has history with Goddard, as the British referee had McGregor escorted away from the cage at last month’s UFC Gdansk.
Goddard, who is one of the most recognized referees in MMA, released a statement on Saturday morning regarding the situation at yesterday’s Bellator 187 show in Dublin:
I operate with integrity, belief and values.— Marc Goddard (@marcgoddard_uk) November 11, 2017
I hold MMA in a deep rooted place in my life and have considered myself most fortunate to have done so for so long.
Family first. Everything else second.
