Mauricio Rua went under the knife Wednesday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The former UFC and PRIDE champion pulled out of a UFC Japan main event bout with Ovince Saint Preux in September due to an injury, and was forced to undergo surgery on his left knee to fix the damage.

“Shogun" has dealt with several knee injuries throughout his career, undergoing multiple surgeries over the past few years.

"Guys, last night I had surgery on my left knee, and thank God everything worked out well,” Rua posted on his social media. "I already started my physical therapy today, so I can get healthy soon to comeback stronger! It was very hard for me to have to step out of a fight due to injury, and I want to thank my doctors, my physical therapist and his team for all the help, and to you all for all the messages of support! Thank you!”

Rua (25-10) is coming off three straight victories in the UFC over Gian Villante, Corey Anderson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, his longest winning streak since signing with the promotion in 2007.
