The UFC is heading to mainland China and its bringing Chase Sherman — and his gifs — along for the ride.
The loquacious heavyweight prospect will meet Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC Shanghai on Nov. 25, the promotion announced Wednesday. The fight was first reported on Monday by MMA Today.
Sherman (11-3), known for flooding his Twitter feed with funny gifs and posts, has won two straight. Most recently, the Mississippi native beat Damian Grabowski by unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 25 in July. Sherman, 27, lost his first two UFC fights prior to that, but the winning streak and his raucous social media game have upped his profile in the division.
Abdurakhimov (17-4) has not fought since a fourth-round TKO loss to Derrick Lewis last November. That defeat snapped a two-fight winning streak for the Russia native. Abdurakhimov, 36, has been a pro MMA fighter since 2008, but didn’t get his first shot with the UFC until 2015.
