Augusto Mendes will no longer compete at the UFC Sao Paulo card on Oct. 28.

The jiu-jitsu expert was looking forward to competing in Brazil for the first time as a professional MMA fighter, but was forced out of a bantamweight clash with Boston Salmon after sustaining a left ankle and left tibia injury.

A replacement is being sought for Salmon. MMA Fighting confirmed the news with sources following a report by Combate.

Mendes (6-2) has gone 1-2 inside the Octagon so far, with a “Fight of the Night” victory over Frankie Saenz sandwiched by losses to future champion Cody Garbrandt and Aljamain Sterling. “Tanquinho" finished all of his fights before signing with the promotion in 2016.

Salmon (6-1) built his entire MMA career under the RFA banner, and was offered a contract with the UFC after defeating Ricky Turcios at the first edition of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in July.

UFC Sao Paulo takes place at the Ibirapuera gymnasium and features Derek Brunson vs. Lyoto Machida in the main event.
