Darren Till says Donald Cerrone was a ‘broken man’ at UFC Gdansk

Darren Till has launched himself up the rankings with a stunning first-round knockout of Donald Cerrone in the UFC Gdansk main event on Saturday night.

According to the Liverpudlian welterweight, he is thankful for Cerrone giving him the opportunity to face him, but admitted that it wasn’t the best decision to make for the former lightweight title contender.

“Cowboy gave me the opportunity, he didn’t need to give me the opportunity and he did,” Till told Ariel Helwani on the latest episode of The MMA Hour. “It wasn’t the best decision from himself because he didn’t know me before this fight.

“The thing is with me that you might not know me, but when you get into that cage with me and you look across and I’m standing there – you know that it’s real and that my confidence is real.”

Till revealed that he felt “Cowboy” was a broken man when he stepped into the Octagon on Saturday night.

“As soon as he stepped into the cage on Saturday, I knew that he was a broken man,” Till said.

“I knew that he was mine. He was mine, he was in my world. My confidence is not fake, it’s 100 percent real and that’s what it is.”

“He just walked into the cage. He wasn’t the Cowboy that I had seen fight Robbie Lawler,” he continued.

“He wasn’t the Cowboy that I had seen fight all these years. He looked at me and he could just see a 24-year-old monster in front of him.

“He was trying to get hyped while he was in the cage. I could see him when I was walking around and I was just standing, looking and smiling with this confidence that I was going to take him out in a few minutes.

“I just knew, mate.”

Considering Cerrone’s demeanor, Till claimed that it was wrong of him to think that he could just continue to beat prospects. The 24-year-old believes that his opponents need to prepare for him in a completely different fashion than they would for any other challenge.

“At the end of the day, he’s been around for a long time and what does he expect? Does he expect to just keep fighting guys and beating guys, beating kids like me?

“I am a kid at the end of the day. Everyone keeps calling me a kid and I am a kid, but I’m different. You can’t come into the cage with the same attitude as you have for other guys,” he said.

“I’m different. I’m not here to f**kin’ mess about. If you give me an opportunity, I’ll do what I done on Saturday against Cowboy.

“My past few fights everyone said I was messing around and playing games and it’s true. I was not playing any games against Cowboy on Saturday and my next competitor will be a top competitor.

“I will not play games and I will not play games with the champion when I knock him out.”

Although he made the biggest win of his career look easy, Till insisted that he believes he is “the greatest fighter on the planet,” and for that reason, the first round knockout did not come as a surprise to him.

“It’s never easy, it’s just what I state: I know I’m the greatest fighter on planet earth. When I beat these guys who they say are the best, it doesn’t come as a surprise to me because I know I’m the best.”
