After losing his kickboxing debut to Glory heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven, Antonio Silva wants to take on the decorate striker once again but in his own world.
“Bigfoot" took on Verhoeven at Saturday’s Glory 46 in China, losing via second-round technical knockout. According to Silva’s manager Alex Davis, "Bigfoot" didn’t expect to win the kickboxing bout, but suggests a rematch under a different ruleset.
Shortly after the Glory fight, Davis released a statement to MMA Fighting suggesting a second Silva-Verhoeven fight in MMA.
"So Antonio went out there and did his first kickboxing fight against the current Glory champ and legend Rico Verhoeven. And not even himself expected to win, but he fought like a lion! Nothing to be ashamed of! And nor was it the manslaughter everyone predicted. So now, Antonio thinks that it is Verhoeven's turn to fight in MMA, and since he took the first challenge, now respectfully invites Rico to do the same in MMA. Bigfoot would be more then happy to welcome him!"
Silva released a statement on his social media after the defeat.
"No excuses... this was my first kickboxing fight, I knew the risks of fighting against (Verhoeven) because he is the champion of (Glory) and he has more than 61 fights in he’s carrier. It was a honor the be in the ring with him. I hope to have more opportunities to fight in Glory events again."

It was a honor the be in the ring with him. I hope to have more opportunities to fight in Glory events again.... Obrigado Rico q Deus te abençoe e espero voltar a lutar aqui no Glory novamente. #glorykickboxing #china #rkt #thugkickboxing #brasilia
With a win over “Bigfoot”, Verhoeven improved to 51-10-1 in kickboxing while picking up his 15th knockout victory. Verhoeven’s only MMA contest was back in 2015 where he stopped Viktor Bogutzki via technical knockout in round one.
“Bigfoot" has more experience in MMA than Verhoeven, having more than 30 bouts under his belt and having challenged for the UFC heavyweight title. The Brazilian veteran holds wins over notable fighters such as Alistair Overeem, Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne. Silva has only been victorious once in his last 10 MMA fights.
