Ronda Rousey has broken her social media silence. Sort of.
The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion posted a quote on her Instagram page Monday morning, referencing hitting “rock bottom.” The quote is from “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling.
“And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life,” the quote reads.
Rousey, 29, was knocked out in 48 seconds by Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 last month. In her previous fight, the mainstream star lost by knockout to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November 2015.
Though many pundits have speculated that Rousey may never fight again — she did allude to retirement in interviews late last year — she has not made any statements about it or her future yet.
Rousey, who has gained worldwide notoriety that includes a burgeoning acting career, did release a statement to ESPN.com following the loss to Nunes:
“I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me.
“Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes -- even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly -- it doesn't work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women's division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda.
“I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”
