The interim title bug has reached Invicta FC.
Megan Anderson vs. Charmaine Tweet in the Invicta 21 main event will be for the interim featherweight belt, the promotion announced Friday. Anderson and Tweet will now compete in a five-round contest in the Jan. 14 headliner from Kansas City.
The Invicta featherweight title is still currently held by Cris Cyborg, who has been in the UFC since May. Cyborg is also currently facing a one-year suspension after failing a USADA drug test last month.
Anderson (7-2) is one of Invicta’s brightest prospects. The Australia native has won three straight, all by knockout. Anderson, 26, is coming off a first-round knockout of Peggy Morgan in July.
Tweet (9-5) won via highlight-reel spinning back fist against Latoya Walker in her last fight back in May. The Canadian is on a three-fight winning streak after falling to Cyborg in February 2015. Tweet, 39, has also faced the likes of Ronda Rousey and Julia Budd in her MMA career.
Also on the Invicta card, Jodie Esquibel takes on short-notice replacement Kali Robbins after DeAnna Bennett pulled out due to injury and popular female boxer Heather Hardy makes her MMA debut against fellow debutante Brieta Carpenter. Pannie Kianzad vs. Raquel Pa’aluhi is the co-main event.
