Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will look to continue his career resurgence later this year in Brazil.
According to multiple sources, the UFC is currently working towards booking Rua vs. Gian Villante for the March 11 UFC Fight Night event in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Rua (24-10) is coming off wins over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 190 and Corey Anderson at UFC 198. Both those fights took place in his home country of Brazil. The last time Rua, 35, won three fights in a row was Dec. 2006 when he defeated Kazuhiro Nakamura, and he eventually extended that streak to four with a Feb. 2007 win over Alistair Overeem before losing to Forrest Griffin in his UFC debut in Sept. 2007.
Meanwhile, Villante (15-7) most recently defeated Saparbek Safarov via second-round TKO last month in Albany, N.Y. That win improved his UFC record to 5-4.
The event, headlined by a middleweight fight between Kelvin Gastelum and Vitor Belfort, will mark the promotion's second trip to Fortaleza, and it's first since 2013.
