Not only did Jason Knight win an exciting fight against Alex Caceres at UFC on FOX 23, but he used his network television platform to try setting up another barnburner.
Knight improved to 16-2 on Saturday night in Denver by submitting Caceres with a rear-naked choke at 4:21 of the second round, then called out Doo Ho Choi, who is coming off a loss to Cub Swanson in what is considered by many to be last year’s best three-round fight.
“I want the ‘Korean Superboy,’” Knight said after his 12th career finish. “That man goes out there and puts on a hell of a show.
After a back-and-forth opening round, Knight foreshadowed things late by getting Caceres into a choke.
Caceres (12-10) survived that one. But he had no answer in round two. Knight got him to the mat, got a bodylock, and rained down punches until he found an opening. Caceres escaped one choke, but couldn’t get out of a second as he tapped for his second straight loss.
Knight, who improved to 4-1 in the UFC, dedicated the victory to his late father on the day before his birthday.
“This is dedicated to my father,” he said. “I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. His birthday is tomorrow and I can’t thank you for a better gift.”
