UFC on FOX 23 live blog: Donald Cerrone vs. Jorge Masvidal

This is the UFC on FOX 23 live blog for Donald Cerrone vs. Jorge Masvidal, a welterweight bout at Friday night's UFC event at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.

Cerrone, who has won four of his past five fights, will face Masvidal, who has won three of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Cerrone fighting in his home state. Masvidal eating up all those boos raining down on him. The referee for this one is Herb Dean. Cerrone all steel nerves at the introductions. Leg kick from Cerrone, and Masvidal just brushes it off. They trade jabs, and now Masvidal wit ha body shot with a kick. Cerrone returns the favor after a couple of high-heat punches up top. A left hand from Cerrone, and Masvidal counters with a right. Big shot from Masvidal lands, and that stung Cowboy, who also landed a big shot at the end of that sequence. Wow. Inside leg kick from Cerrone, and a straight left jab from him lands flush. Pretty stuff; like a joust. Masvidal moves in and lands a couple of shots. Masvidal favoring his eyes a little bit, or so it seems. Don't see any blood or anything. He lands another solid jab. Both guys finding their range that way. Hard leg kick from Cerrone, who then ducks for a takedown and momentarily takes Gamebred down. Masvidal back up, and lands a spinning backfist. Love these sequences. They are popping. Both guys are so precise with their striking. Spinning kick from Masvidal mostly blocked, and Cerrone lunges ahead with a couple of straight punches. Neither guy overly worried about the other in the pocket, and Masvidal lands a nice combo. Cerrone takes a big shot, and that's it! It comes right at the end of the round. No, they say he was saved by the bell. Wow. Looked like it was over. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Masvidal, 10-8.

Round 2: See if Masvidal swarms here. Nope. Masvidal walks forward lifting his leg in threat, and Cerrone swings wild wti ha right. Now Masvidal tags him with a right of his own, and he walks him down to the wall, and attacks the body. The clinch, and now they break. Cerrone is not all there. He is eating punches. A right hand and that drops Cerrone again! Masvidal jumps in for the finish, and this time — after a series of hard shots on the fallen Cowboy — Dean stops the fight! That's it! Masvidal with a huge victory there. Emphatic.
