Bellator 170 salaries: Tito Ortiz hauls $300K in retirement fight

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Tito Ortiz left his gloves in the cage, but took home a nice pay check.

“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” made $300,000 disclosed for his retirement fight, a first-round submission win over Chael Sonnen in the main event of Bellator 170 on Saturday night at The Forum, per a document obtained from MMA Fighting from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Ortiz, 41, said coming in that it would be his last fight. Afterward, he took off his gloves, gave them to his son Jacob and Jacob left the gloves in the cage. Ortiz (19-12-1), a Southern California native, is a legend in MMA, one of the most significant figures in the history of the sport and the former longtime UFC light heavyweight champion.

Sonnen pulled in $50,000 disclosed for the loss. Neither he nor Ortiz had a win bonus figured into their contract. It’s likely that Sonnen, a former top-drawing pay-per-view attraction in the UFC, made more than the disclosed number.

In the co-main event, Paul Daley and Brennan Ward both made $50,000, with neither contracted for a win bonus. Daley won by vicious first-round knockout via a flying knee.
