Victorious UFC featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez was one of three fighters to receive an indefinite suspension in the aftermath of UFC Fight Night 103, according to information released by the Arizona Department of Gaming to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.
Rodriguez handily defeated B.J. Penn in the night’s main event, outclassing the UFC Hall of Famer en route to a second-route TKO finish. Rodriguez will now be formally sidelined until receiving doctor’s clearance on potential undisclosed injuries suffered during the bout, per commission orders.
The two other fighters to receive similarly indefinite medical suspensions were Ben Saunders and Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger. Unlike some other state athletic commissions, the Arizona Department of Gaming does not publicly disclose any reasons for the length of its suspensions.
Notably, Penn received a 180-day medical suspension for his loss to Rodriguez. During the fight, Penn suffered the first knockdown of his decorated UFC career.
UFC Fight Night 103 took place Jan. 15 at the Talking Stick Resort Arena Phoenix, Arizona. The night’s main card aired live on FOX Sports 1.
