UFC Fight Night 103 live blog: Joe Lauzon vs. Marcin Held

This is the UFC Fight Night 103 live blog for Joe Lauzon vs. Marcin Held, a lightweight bout at Sunday night's UFC event at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Ariz.

Joe Lauzon, who has won two of his last five UFC fights, will face Held, who is 0-1 in the UFC, on the main card.

Round 1: The referee for this one is Herb Dean. They touch gloves. Held with leg kick, and waves a punch. Lauzon comes in and slams a couple of quick inside punches on him. Left jab from Held lands. That snapped fast, now Lauzon with a quick jump in, lands a sequence, and Lauzon with a series of elbows at the takedown attempt! That hurt Held. They break. Lauzon clinches, and they change positions on fence. Now Held with a well-earned takedown right there on the links, and he's fighting in Lauzon's guard. Now he moves Lauzon out from the fence towards the middle, and Lauzon tries to scramble. Short elbows from Held, who now moves to side control. Lauzon hanging tough down there, plenty active. Now Lauzon scrambles back to his feet, wall-walking to advantage. Held immediately to clinch, and he lowers for a double-leg. Held knows what side his bread is buttered on. They break, and with 40 seconds left they clinch again, with Lauzon the bully in the scenario. Held is deft at this, though, and reverses. Held holding him there, and at the end of the round Lauzon blasts Held with a shot that might have sent him reeling, and throws a good-measure shot at the horn. Round 2: Held straight out, as the aggressor, and now waves a wheel kick by Lauzon's head/ He's definitely trying to show something on the feet. Now Held times out a takedown, and that was explosive. Held right to work, looking to take Lauzon's back — and he does with his own back to the fence. Held is hanging onto Lauzon's back, and Lauzon is fighting off the slithery forearms hunting for his neck. Lauzon scrambles, and now he's on his knees, trying to dump Held! Nicely done, as he does momentarily do just that. Held back up, and he misses an inside elbow. Now Held just muscles Lauzon back to the fence, and as they reverse, a knee from the clinch from Lauzon. Now Held able to get Lauzon to the canvas, right in the middle of the cage — on the Monster emblem. Dean wants Held to show more, to keep the action moving. Lauzon trying to control posture. Now Lauzon looks for an armbar, and Held fends! A little drama, as Held now drops to the canvas, too, and he's free. Great defense there from Held. Now he's in Lauzon's guard, and it's right back to control. Lauzon might be tiring a bit; been a lot of defense. Round will end with Held in Lauzon's guard. Round 3: Fight definitely favoring Held here momentum-wise. Let's see if he can keep that up. A nice one-two from Held to kick off the third, and Lauzon bounces back on his feet, looking to return fire. Again a one-two from Held. Left jabs from Held, and some of those are getting through. Lauzon closes the distance, and Held throws him against fence. They clinch, and now break. Lauzon now changes levels, and Held coolly grabs his waist and lifts Lauzon off the ground, slams him down. Dean halts the action for a brief moment to get Lauzon's mouthpiece, and just puts it back in his mouth. They are back up after the lull. Held definitely hanging tough here, and showcasing far better than his fight with Diego Sanchez. Lauzon in a scramble using his wrestling to control a sequence, and Held went headfirst into the fence. But he's strong, and once again he reverses that toil. Lauzon might had a slight edge in the strikes overall, but Held just overpowering him in most of the crucial moments. Now he times out a takedown and gets it. His fifth takedown of the fight, and with half-a-minute to go, Lauzon has Held in his guard. Now Held postures up, and he tries to land a kick on the prone Lauzon. Doesn't work.
