One year ago, Ronda Rousey was the biggest star in MMA but that all came crashing down when Holly Holm put her shin on Rousey's chin ending her bantamweight reign. Rousey hasn't fought since then and the big question wasn't when Rousey would return, but if she ever would.
Well now that question may be answered. Rousey's long-time trainer, Edmond Tarverdyan told ESPN this week that Rousey's return to the Octagon is being discussed for later this year in a bantamweight title bout against current champion Amanda Nunes.
"There have been talks about her coming back, but we haven't made a final decision yet. There's a chance she fights to get her belt back this year, but nothing is set yet. If we do make a comeback this year, we will. If not we will make it next year. We want to thank all our fans for being patient."
According to Tarverdyan, Rousey began training for her comeback last month and, given the time frame, it appears most likely that Rousey would be returning for UFC 207 on Dec. 30th if she were to come back this year. That coincides with Fox Sports' report that Rousey has indeed been offered the bout with Nunes though no agreements have been sent nor signed.
Whenever it happens, be it this year or next, it appears that Rousey is indeed coming back to the UFC and Tarverdyan had a message for everyone when she does.
"When she does come back, we promise the best Ronda Rousey that anyone has ever seen. "
Obviously. Michael Bisping says Cris Cyborg is too big to make 135 lbs.
Once more. Dan Henderson says he was "ready to be done" before the Bisping rematch came up.
Schedule. The NAC scheduled Jon Jones drug test hearing and the Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz skirmish hearing.
Cyborg will show none either. Lina Lansberg has no sympathy for Cris Cyborg's difficult weight cut.
DolLAWay. C.B. Dollaway is exploring legal action after elevator accident at UFC 203.
Firas on Hendo-Bisping 2.
Video of Wandy and Krazy Horse close to getting into it.
Thomas on negotiations. Honestly, probably fairly accurate.
Chael on Al's K dispute.
Fights Gone By.
Beatdown at Invicta.
Gotta respect Eddie never giving up on the dream to fight Conor at MSG.
Unless Eddie has a new dream...

Is this high school? Y'all talking about hair texture? How about your family is a bunch of cheats and liars. Those are real fighting words. https://t.co/CjpUJvQJ9b— Kevin Lee (@MoTownPhenom) September 23, 2016

I've cut 35 lbs in 5 weeks. The majority of it being in the last two days before weighins. Yeah we make weight, but it f***s our metabolism and hormones a little more each time we do it, making our weight go up even further between fights. It's an invisible injury, especially once you get hit in the head and knock that pituitary gland around while being dehydrated. If you look at all the female fighters that get "fat" between fights, know there's a lot more going on there than being a food ninja.
TODAY IN MMA HISTORY
2006: Matt Hughes got his revenge, stopping B.J. Penn with punches from top position to defend his welterweight championship at UFC 63. Originally Hughes was supposed to rematch Georges St-Pierre but GSP withdraw due to a groin injury. This event also featured UFC debut of Joe Lauzon who knocked out former lightweight champion Jens Pulver48 seconds into the first round. Lauzon would then go on to enter the TUF house where Pulver was one of the coaches.
The return of Ronda Rousey is one of the most interesting stories in MMA today. I hope she does come back because I am fascinated by how she will look and handle the entire thing.
And that is the week folks. Don't forget about Invicta tonight and enjoy the UFC on Saturday. See you back at it again on Monday morning.
