The main card for Bellator 162 is now set with the addition of two fights.
Announced on Tuesday for the Oct. 21 card in Memphis was a middleweight matchup between Hisaki Kato and A.J. Matthews, as well as a lightweight matchup between Goiti Yamauchi and Ryan Couture.
The 34-year-old Kato (6-2) has made his name in Bellator with a pair of knockouts of Joe Schilling: First in a Bellator MMA fight, then in a rematch held under kickboxing rules. His most recent MMA fight was a first-round TKO of Yuta Watanabe on the April 17 RIZIN card. Matthews (8-5), of San Diego, is looking to shake a two-fight losing streak, most recently a decision loss to Ben Reiter at Bellator 156.
Yamauchi (19-3), a native of Japan who is now based in Curitiba, Brazil, is 5-2 in Bellator and has 15 career submission wins. He's looking to shake off a decision loss to Bubba Jenkins at Bellator 151. Also looking to get back into the win column is Couture (10-4), the son of MMA legend Randy Couture. Ryan Couture was knocked out by Patricky Freire at Bellator 156, which snapped a four-fight win streak.
Also announced for the card was a welterweight preliminary bout between Ricky Rainey (11-4) and Gilbert Smith (12-5).
