VANCOUVER – The UFC's star strawweight came through with flying colors on a big platform.
In their strawweight fight at UFC on FOX 21 on Saturday night, 22-year old Paige VanZant scored a second-round knockout victory over Bec Rawlings. The end came officially at :17 of Round 2.
VanZant came out with a flying knee to begin the fight, and yet wasn't able to find a cohesive rhythm in the first round. Rawlings was able to score on the exchanges, tagging the retreating VanZant in quick bursts.
Yet in the second, VanZant wasted little time. She hit Rawlings with a jump kick that landed flush, which downed the Australian fighter. It was academic from there, as VanZant moved in with hammerfists until referee Dan Miragliotta called her off.
"I want to get on the December in Sacramento," she said when asked what's next in the post-fight interview.
With the victory, VanZant puts her second professional loss against Rose Namajunas in her rear-view mirror. She improves to 7-2, while Rawlings drops to 7-5.
