UFC on FOX 21 results: Jim Miller wins narrow split decision over Joe Lauzon in rematch

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

VANCOUVER – The first fight between Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon was a wild, back-and-forth affair that left both guys bloody and smiling. That was four years ago at UFC 155.

Tonight they played it back, each fresh off of emphatic victories at UFC 200. In the rematch there wasn't as much blood, but there was just as much action. In the end, it was Miller who got his arm raised again.

New Jersey's Miller won a razor thin split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) over Massachusetts' Lauzon.

The fight started out fast, with the same frenetic sequences where both men had their moments. Miller, a southpaw who was finding a home for his left throughout, got the better of Lauzon later in the round with elbows and then a late sally of punches.

In the second, a big knee from Lauzon put Miller on his back, and Lauzon was able to work his ground and pound along the fence for the rest of the round. The fight looked knotted heading into the final round.

Miller stormed Lauzon in the third, delivering a series of shots in close as the crowd in at the Rogers Arena came to life. Yet Lauzon eventually got the better of Miller as the round went on, working from the top position on the ground. Lauzon tried for an armbar at the very end, but couldn't get the tap before the final horn.

With the victory, Miller improved his record to 27-8-1, while Lauzon fell to 26-12.
