UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor highlighted a list of three fighters to receive potentially lengthy medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 202, the Nevada Athletic Commission announced Monday.
McGregor, who defeated Nate Diaz via majority decision in a hard-fought, non-title welterweight rematch, will be required to receive orthopedic clearance on a potential left foot/ankle fracture or be sidelined until Feb. 2017.
It is unlikely the medical suspension will affect McGregor though, as the popular Irishman indicated after the fight that his shin was sore from kicking Diaz in the legs, but that otherwise he was healthy. McGregor's head coach, John Kavanagh, also added on The MMA Hour on Monday that the injury was a pre-existing condition that McGregor has had for some time.
Aside from McGregor, only two other fighters on the card received a potential suspension stretching into the new year: McGregor's SBG Ireland teammate Artem Lobov (right leg/ankle) and welterweight contender Neil Magny (left leg).
UFC 201 took place Aug. 20 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card aired live on pay-per-view.
