UFC 202 results: Mike Perry power punches his way to TKO win over Hyun Gyu Lim

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

UFC newcomer Mike Perry had a tall order in facing the durable and fan-friendly Hyun Gyu Lim in his UFC debut, but it turns out he was up to the task.

The two traded as the fight began and Lim, showing modest improvement, seemed poised and flashed a jab. Soon, though, Perry's power would take over and he dropped Lim badly to the canvas. Perry attacked Lim on the ground and even found mounted crucifix for a time, but Lim was able to get to his feet.

It was all for naught. Lim would be dropped twice more with hard hooks and straights. The last time Lim would go belly down and barely cover up, forcing referee John McCarthy to halt the fight at 3:38 of the first, awarding Perry the win by TKO.

"Felt great, man. I know I caused a lot of issues last night, but I'm not here to make friends. I did what I came to do," Perry said of his decision to fake handshake Lim at the weigh-ins.

"I reached back too far. I gotta clean that up a bit, but whatever works. My left hook looks good. Mike Tyson in the house, what's up, man?"

Perry's record climbs to 7-0 while Lim falls to 13-6-1.
