Georges St-Pierre: I’d beat Nick Diaz ‘way worse’ if we fight a second time

Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz 2 is probably one of the biggest fights the UFC can book right now.

Diaz is at the height of his popularity, even after an 18-month drug suspension delayed the continuance of his career. St-Pierre is the one of the best financial draws the sport has ever seen. And the rivalry between the two has not dissipated much since they first fought in 2013.

Diaz often gets asked about St-Pierre in interviews and recently said he believed he was drugged before that UFC 158 fight in Montreal, GSP's hometown. St-Pierre, meanwhile, told Bloody Elbow this week in an interview that he would not mind fighting Diaz again — and feels like he would dominate him the second time around.

"I beat him last time easily, but I was not happy — it's one of these fights that I'm not happy with," St-Pierre said. "Because I didn't feel like I gave enough, for different reasons. It left me angry that fight, when I look back at it — maybe I won, but for some reason it left me angry and I feel like I could have done so much better."

St-Pierre defeated Diaz by unanimous decision that night in Canada. It wasn't the former UFC welterweight champion's greatest performance, more of a workmanlike affair. GSP's jiu-jitsu coach John Danaher wrote on Instagram this week that St-Pierre was up the night before vomiting after drinking some bad watermelon juice after weigh-ins.

GSP, 34, was asked by Bloody Elbow writer Ram Gilboa if Diaz will be the first fight in his comeback. St-Pierre has not fought since November 2013, a win over Johny Hendricks.

"I don't care if it's the first, or second, or third," GSP said. "If they want me to fight Nick Diaz it would be my pleasure. I don't mind, I am not afraid of Nick Diaz, I beat him last time, and I'll beat even worse, I'll beat him way worse next time that I'll fight him."

Diaz has said in many interviews that he believes St-Pierre missed weight before their fight and the commission covered it up. He and his coach Richard Perez said last week that they believe Diaz was drugged, possibly by GSP's doctor, prior to the bout.

For a contest that happened more than three years ago that was not exactly a Fight of the Year candidate, St-Pierre vs. Diaz sure does get talked about quite a bit. It's a testament to just how larger than life both men are. If a rematch is what people want, GSP said he'd be down to run it back.

"It seems to me to me like it's Nick Diaz that is running for another shot at me," St-Pierre said. "I wouldn't mind, I'm not afraid of Nick Diaz, I'll tell you. I am telling you right now. If it's what the fans want to see, I'm in."
