UFC 200 results: T.J. Dillashaw avenges previous loss to Raphael Assuncao

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

LAS VEGAS -- For three years, T.J. Dillashaw has waited for a chance to avenge his loss to Raphael Assuncao.

Assuncao took a highly debatable split decision in Brazil in 2013, and even when he held the UFC bantamweight title, Dillashaw campaigned to get a rematch.

Saturday night was the night for Dillashaw. In his first fight since losing the belt in a tight decision to Dominick Cruz in January, Dillashaw looked crisp, wearing Assunaco down and claiming a victory at UFC 200. The judges' scores were 30-27 across the board.

The opening round was mostly a feeling-out process. Dillashaw landed more frequently, but Assuncao got warmed up as the round back on and began landing counters.

In the second, Dillashaw really began to take over, using his patented movement to keep Assuncao flustered. The bout was briefly stopped as the doctor checked what appeared to be a broken nose on Assuncao. He was cleared to continue, but was immediately rocked after the restart.

The third was a bit more tentative, as Dillashaw seemed more content to counter. When given an opening in the final minute, Dillashaw scored a takedown and sealed the deal.

Dillashaw (13-3) has now won five of six since their first fight. Assuncao (23-5), who was fighting for the first time in two years due to various injuries, had a seven-fight win streak snapped.
