Four-man tournament to decide Titan FC bantamweight title

Titan FC

A four-man tournament spread over two events will decide the Titan FC bantamweight title.

In the semifinals of the bracket, Anderson dos Santos will face Andrew Whitney and Bruce Lutchmedial takes on Edir Terry, promotion officials told MMAFighting. Both of those fights will take place at Titan FC 40 on Aug. 5 in Coral Gables, Fla. The winners will meet at Titan FC 41 on Sept. 9.

"It's time to crown a new bantamweight champ and we can't think of a better way to do it than by holding a tournament with four of the top bantamweights," Titan COO Lex McMahon said. "All four fighters have delivered amazing performances in the past and we expect nothing less than fireworks throughout the course of the tournament."

Dos Santos (14-3) would have won the title back in March after submitting Ricky Simon, but he missed weight and the belt remained vacant. The 30-year-old Brazilian has won two of his last three fights. Whitney (13-4) has won three in a row, including two of those in Titan. The 32-year-old is coming off a unanimous decision win over Cory Tait in April.

Lutchmedial (5-1) has won five straight after losing his pro debut in 2011. Terry (5-1) has won four straight and is making his Titan debut.

Titan FC 40 is headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Gesias Cavalcante and challenger Freddy Assuncao. The event takes place at the Bank United Center and will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
