Saad Awad vs. Derek Anderson, Joey Davis debut added to Bellator 160

Bellator MMA

Bellator is bringing some of its top homegrown, up-and-coming fighters to Southern California.

Saad Awad will meet Derek Anderson in a key lightweight bout at Bellator 160 on Aug. 26 in Anaheim, it was announced Tuesday. Both fighters have been with the promotion for three years or more.

Also on the card will be NCAA Division II wrestling standout Joey Davis, making his pro MMA debut. Previously, Bellator announced bouts featuring rising fighters like A.J. McKee and Bubba Jenkins, who will meet Georgi Karakhanyan in a rematch.

Awad (19-7) has won four of his last five fights, most recently a first-round TKO of Evangelista Santos in May. The Millennia MMA product also owns a knockout of Will Brooks. Awad, 33, has been a Bellator staple since 2013.

Anderson (13-2), one of the most underrated fighters on the roster, is coming off a split decision win over Patricky Freire last December. The San Diego native is 2-2 in his last four fights. Anderson, 26, also beat Freire in his Bellator debut back in 2013.

Bellator 160 is headlined by a lightweight contender bout between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and Patricio Freire. No co-main event has been made official yet. Kimbo Slice's son Kevin Ferguson Jr. will make his pro debut at the event as well, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.
