What looked to simply be just another short-notice matchup turned into Fight of the Night after one of the year's wildest scraps.
Tony Ferguson (21-3) and Lando Vannata (8-1) threw down for a frenetic round and a half Wednesday night in Sioux Falls, S.D. Vannata, a JacksonWink fighter competing on two weeks' notice, proved ready for the big time, but Ferguson dug down for a second-round submission in his eighth straight win.
Both fighters went home with an extra $50,000, as they took home UFC Fight Night 91 Fight of the Night honors.
The Performance of the Night winners, meanwhile, were John Lineker and Louis Smolka. Lineker (28-7) starched Michael McDonald in the opening round of their main event and improved to 3-0 since going up to bantamweight; while Smolka (11-1) won via TKO late in the second-round of an action-packed flyweight bout against Sioux Falls' Ben Nguyen. Both competitors also took home $50K.
