Wilson Reis was finally set to earn a UFC title shot, earning the opportunity at flyweight against the reigning UFC champion in the weight class, Demetrious Johnson.
That bout was scheduled to take place at UFC 201 in Atlanta later this month, Earlier this week, however, it was revealed Johnson would be unable to compete as a result of suffering an injury. Reis publicly expressed interest to stay on the card on Sunday and on Wednesday, his wish was fulfilled.
The UFC announced on Wednesday's broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Lineker vs. McDonald that UFC newcomer Sean Santella would replace Johnson against Reis at UFC 201.
Santella, 31, is 15-5 in professional MMA. He's riding a two-fight win streak and has fought in Cage Fury Fighting Championships, Ring of Combat and more.
Reis, 31, enters this bout on just a one-fight win streak, but is 4-2 inside the Octagon. His record stands at 20-6.
UFC 201 takes place July 30 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
