Mohegan Sun commission to drug test Bellator 158 fighters

Bellator is bringing in a top U.S. athletic commission to help with regulation in England this weekend.

The Mohegan Department of Athletic Regulation will be drug testing athletes from Bellator 158, the promotion announced Wednesday. Bellator 158 takes place Saturday at The O2 in London. Testing will be conducted both before and after the fights. MMAjunkie was the first to report the news.

"I couldn't be more pleased to have the Mohegan commission's involvement in Bellator's upcoming international event," Bellator director of regulatory affairs and ISKA president Cory Schafer said in a press release. "It will help establish a level of regulatory consistency that clearly serves the best interest of the promotion and the athletes. We look forward to very successful and well-regulated event."

Many international events are self-regulated by promotions with a lack of commissions and sanctioning bodies in other countries. This is only Bellator's second international card and first in England.

Bellator promotes bouts regularly at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Mohegan's commission director is Mike Mazzulli, the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) president.

Bellator 158 is headlined by a welterweight contender fight between Paul Daley and Douglas Lima. In the co-main event, Matt Mitrione takes on Oli Thompson in a heavyweight bout. Also on the card, up-and-coming welterweight Michael Page faces Evangelista Santos.
