UFC 199 live blog: Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber 3

This is the UFC 199 live blog for Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber 3, a bantamweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Cruz, who has won 12 straight fights, will face Faber, who has won three of his past five fights, in the co-main event.

Round 1: The referee in charge is Herb Dean. Both fighters are moving back and forth. Faber jumps into range and Cruz takes him to the ground. Faber moves to butterfly guard. Faber tries to stand and does, but Cruz hits a slide by and gets to Faber's back as he stands. Cruz attempts a single and gets it, but Faber rolls through and they stand. Faber eats a right hand for his efforts. Faber picks up Cruz and slams him, but now Cruz rolls through and he's on top. Cruz tries to stand and move away, but eats a left for his efforts. Now Cruz attempts a takedown before separating. Faber charges and eats two right hands, then an inside leg kick. Cruz times a single, but can't get it. Nice flurry of lefts and rights score for Cruz.

Round 2: Out of nowhere a huge left hand from Cruz rocks Faber to the canvas. Cruz follows up, but Faber is able to get to his feet. Cruz is in hot pursuit and shucks off a low single and scores a heavy right hand. Two jabs and a leg kick score for Cruz, but Faber's moving better. Another hard outside leg kick. Cruz is still pursuing to a generally retreating Faber, but so far hasn't landed anything else particularly damaging except perhaps the leg kicks. Faber attempts a takedown in a scramble across the fence line, but Cruz whips out. Faber nails Cruz with a right, his best punch of the round.

Round 3: Cruz is back to stalking and lands a crushing leg kick. Right hand from Cruz literally spins Faber around, but he seems to be OK. Flying knee from Cruz misses as Faber moves out of the way. Leg kick and right hand land for Cruz. Left to the body and a right to the head, then a left to the head all land for Cruz. Cruz literally just walking Faber down with Faber just responding, nothing proactive. Two lefts land for Cruz after two rights miss. Cruz scores a knee tap, but Faber scrambles to his feet. Cruz follows with a nice jab.

Round 4: Cruz ducks under a right and lands a left hand. Jab scores for Cruz. Faber attempts a clinch, but can't get it and then eats a jab. Jab scores as Cruz moves at an angle. Faber lunges with a right and Cruz moves out of the way. Left hand from Cruz drops Faber against the fence and a series of rights nearly end Faber's night, but Faber holds on. Cruz charges in and lands a right, prompting Faber to miss with his own. Faber lands his own right just before the round ends, but that's about all.

Round 5: Cruz jabbing and landing, but Faber's putting on a little more pressure. A flurry of punches back up Faber and he nearly eats not one, but two leg kicks. Somehow manages to avoid both and lands a right of his own. Cruz lands a couple of rights in response to one right from Faber. Faber lands a right, but Cruz uses it to score a takedown and get behind him. Faber stands, but eats a body kick for his efforts as Cruz separates. Superman punch to a knee tap. They clinch along the fence, but no dice for Faber on anything. Faber ducks and eats a punch and that's it. Easy shutout for the champ.
