UFC 199 live blog: Max Holloway vs. Ricardo Lamas

This is the UFC 199 live blog for Max Holloway vs. Ricardo Lamas, a featherweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Holloway, who has won eight straight fights, will face Lamas, who has won three of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: The referee in charge is John McCarthy. Lamas is orthodox while Holloway is southpaw. Holloway doing the stalking early, but so far mindful of range. Uppercut-right hand by Holloway partially lands. Lamas coming forward a bit more and misses on a punch, but lands a nice outside leg kick. Lamas gets tagged with a four-punch combo that scores to the head and body and Lamas is clearly hurt. He recovers, but can't get the takedown when he shoots. Lamas is hanging onto a leg, but Holloway pulls back. Lamas scores a nice inside leg kick, but missing on most everything he throws. Single leg attempt from Lamas and pressing Holloway into the fence. Holloway kicks free after a brief struggle. Holloway misses on a flurry of punches, but lands a wheel kick. Lamas scores with a knee to the body.

Round 2: Lamas tries to strike first with a head kick, but it's blocked. Lamas backs up Holloway with a flurry of punches that miss, but a leg kick at the end scores. Left hand scores for Holloway now and now a left straight to the body. Holloway throws a flurry now and some of it gets through. Holloway tags Lamas and tries to finish him off, but Lamas tags him in a wild exchange. Eventually Holloway threatens a guillotine in a scramble and Lamas goes back down to shuck it off, but nearly ends up in a north-south choke. Lamas moves to guard and his feet, but eats a body kick and jab for his efforts. Again from a takedown attempt Holloway nearly locks up a guillotine before Lamas spins, but ends up underneath. Holloway cracks Lamas with a monster elbow before the round closes.

Round 3: Lamas is trying to blitz forward to score, but so far Holloway moving outside of the way. Capoeira kick by Lamas, but it lands on nothing. Spinning heel kick for Lamas hits nothing but air. Lamas eats a one-two as he tries to charge in on Holloway, but does score a hard outside leg kick. And another. He shoots, but Holloway stuffs it right away. Holloway slips two punches and scores counters of his own. Lamas clinches and presses Holloway into the fence, but Holloway spins out and scores a left. Hard left hand pushes Lamas's head back and Holloway tries to swarm, but only lands a few of the strikes. With ten seconds left in the round, Holloway points to the ground to suggest they just trade and Lamas obliges. The fight ends in a wild brawl.
