It's a little bit more of a quiet week in the sport, but 'quiet' is just a relative term. Jon Jones is making headlines as he asked the Nevada Athletic Commission permission to have a different referee than John McCarthy. His reasoning? Well, no one really knows. Everything he's stated publicly doesn't amount to a real argument. His manager, Malki Kawa, essentially confirmed that last night on Twitter. Daniel Cormier isn't happy about it either. Why is he doing it, then? We can all theorize about the reasons, but the fact remains Jones has not articulated a clear basis for which McCarthy can't or shouldn't be allowed to referee.
We're also less than a week removed from the major UFC fight week in Las Vegas. All of this gets me to thinking: what non-main event fight are you most looking forward to? There's lots of interesting choices.
We've completed the second Bellator 157: Dynamite 2 show and it was....well, underwhelming? It had it's moments. I still don't think the combo of MMA and kickboxing can't work. As they're doing it currently, however, it doesn't.
