Glover Teixeira was willing to fight anyone after Anthony Johnson pulled out of UFC on FOX 20, but he will have to wait for a new date for his return. Sources told MMA Fighting that won't compete on July 23.
Initially scheduled to meet "Rumble" in a clash that could determine the next in line for a shot at the winner of Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier, Teixeira told MMA Fighting on Saturday that he’d rather fight a new opponent in Chicago.
"I’m prepared, and I spent a lot of money bringing guys from Brazil to help me," Teixeira said hours after Johnson withdrew from the light heavyweight bout. "For sure, I’d like to stay on the card."
It's still yet to be determined when Teixeira (25-4) will return to action. The Brazilian fighter is coming off three straight stoppage victories over Rashad Evans, Patrick Cummins and Ovince St. Preux.
UFC on FOX 20 takes place at the United Center in Chicago, and features Holly Holm vs. Valentina Shevchenko in the main event.
