Anthony Pettis has his first opponent as a featherweight.
The former UFC lightweight champion takes on Charles Oliveira at UFC on FOX 21 on Aug. 27 in Vancouver, FOX Sports reported Wednesday, per UFC executive Tom Wright.
Pettis (18-5), once considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, lost three straight at lightweight before deciding to move down a weight class. "Showtime" dropped the belt last year to Rafael dos Anjos, then fell to Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza. Pettis, 29, is also now doing part of his training camp at JacksonWink MMA in Albuquerque.
Oliveira (21-5, 1 NC) has won five of his last six fights with the only loss coming to Max Holloway last August due to injury in the first-round. The Brazilian most recently defeated Myles Jury by first-round submission in December. Oliveira is still only 26 years old and shaping into a dangerous featherweight contender. He has had issues with making weight in the past and missed by more than four pounds against Jury.
UFC on FOX 21 does not currently have a main event. Typically, UFC on FOX events are designed for January, April, July and December. This marks the second trip to Canada for the UFC in 2016 and the first return to Vancouver since UFC 174 in June 2014.
