Bellator adds Joe Schilling vs. Hisaki Kato rematch, but as kickboxing bout

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

When kickboxer Joe Schilling moved back into MMA as a Bellator fighter, he likely expected to lord over the middleweight division his considerable striking prowess. To some extent, he did, but that came crashing down when Schilling was knocked out with one punch by Histaki Kato at Bellator 139 in June of 2015.

Schilling will get a chance to avenge his loss to Kato, but this time in a kickboxing bout. Bellator announced the match-up during Friday's Bellator 155 broadcast on Spike. it's set for June 24 at Bellator Kickboxing 2, which immediately follows Dynamite 2 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Schilling, 32, is 2-5 in professional MMA, but is 19-8 in professional kickboxing. He has not fought in MMA since the loss to Kato, but has competed three times in kickboxing.

Kato, 33, is 6-2 in MMA. He last fought in Rizin in April where he defeated Yuta Watanabe in the first round via TKO.

This bout will headline Bellator Kickboxing 2, which immediately follows Bellator: Dynamite 2.
