Stipe Miocic left Curitiba with a new golden belt and a little extra cash.
Miocic won $50,000 in bonus money for his ‘Performance of the Night' knockout over Fabricio Werdum on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 198. Miocic downed Werdum with a short right hand midway through the opening round to capture the UFC heavyweight title and claim his sixth post-fight bonus in the UFC.
UFC 198 took place May 14 at the Arena da Baixada soccer stadium in Curitiba, Brazil. The main card aired live on pay-per-view.
Co-main event winner Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza was the evening's other ‘Performance of the Night' bonus recipient.
Souza dominated fellow Brazilian countryman Vitor Belfort en route to a first-round TKO stoppage, thrusting Souza into pole position for the next UFC middleweight title shot against the victor of the rematch between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman at UFC 199.
On the undercard, lightweights Francisco Trinaldo and Yancy Medeiros took ‘Fight of the Night' honors for their thrilling back-and-forth brawl, which Trinaldo won via unanimous decision.
Trinaldo staggered Medeiros multiple times with heavy strikes through the 15-minute fight, but the Hawaiian showed tremendous heart in surviving and firing back until the final horn. The bonus was Medeiros' third inside the Octagon and Trinaldo's first.
