UFC 198 results: Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua takes questionable call over Corey Anderson

A couple well-timed shots by a legendary name fighting in his hometown are all the ingredients needed to take a questionable decision.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was fighting in his hometown of Curitiba, Brazil against Corey Anderson on Saturday night.

Rua nearly knocked out Anderson in the final 10 seconds of the opening round and dropped him again in the closing seconds of the second. That was enough for Rua to take a split decision, earning two out of three 29-28 cards at UFC 198.

"I knew he was going to be a tough opponent," said Rua, the former UFC light heavyweight champion. "He won The Ultimate Fighter."

Anderson tried to kickbox with Rua in the opening round and paid for it when Rua dropped him with a monstrous left hand. Anderson held on through hammerfists until the horn.

In the second, Anderson mixed it up and went to his wrestling game. Rua dropped him again, although this time he was nowhere close to finishing the fight.

Anderson (8-2) controlled the tempo in the final round, but it was enough for him to get the call, as he lost for just the second time in his UFC career.

With the victory, Rua (24-10) won back-to-back fights for the first time since defeating Mark Coleman and Chuck Liddell in 2009.

"I'm a very fulfilled man," said Rua. "I was a champion twice, so I do this because I love it."
