Round 1: We roll along, as we get to Beastin' 25/8 vs. the venerable Shogun Rua. The referee for this one is Mario Yamasaki, who sends out the heart hands signal that he's ready. No glove touch. Rua stalks early, and Anderson is bouncing. Right hand from Rua, more of a feel out punch. Leg kick from Shogun, as Andersom keeps moving. Anderson using the left jab, trying to keep Shogun at bay. Lead leg of Anderson taking some punishment. Right hand counter from Rua and that lands, but Anderson still flicking that jab. Crowd chanting loud in Curitiba, Rua's countrymen. And he responds with an overhand right that was meant to take his head off — it missed. Another jab from 25/8, and that lands. Rua shakes it off. Now a scramble, and as Rua gets up Anderson lands some shots. Now they are on the fence, and Anderson gets low trying for a takedown. Now he comes back up and is active with his left hand, short punches, now a knee. They break. Rua still getting his offense going, lands on a right hand. Both men have eaten fairly significant punches. Anderson's been fanning with the right hand out of the jab. But he landed it right there. They exchange, and Rua rocks Anderson with a huge left! Late in the round, now he's trying for the finish, as Anderson lies on his back. Big shots! But he can't get it done in time. Wow. MMA Fighting scores R1 for Rua, 10-9.
Round 2: Anderson's corner instructing him not to get in the pocket and trade with Rua between rounds. Anderson again active, showing a lot of movement, and Rua tries to kick his lead leg. Anderson fans on a right and Rua lands with his own. They exchange inside leg kicks. Beautifully timed take down as Rua comes in on a punch; now Anderson on top in the middle of the Octagon. Anderson postures up, and as he tries to time out an attack Rua scoots back to his feet. Now Anderson pushes Shogun to the fence, and he goes to work there. Rua lands a knee inside, and Anderson does the same. Anderson changes levels, and trying for takedown on fence. Rua fends him off, and now widens his legs. He's controlling Anderson's wrists, and they break. Big takedown from Anderson, but Rua right back up. Now they clinch, and Anderson tries to throw Rua, who won't budge. Action slows a bit, as both guys circle. And again at the very end of the round blasts Anderson with a huge right hand! Might have taken the round based on that alone. MMA Fighting scores R2 for Rua, 10-9 (20-18 overall).
Round 3: Rua showing some head movement, and he slams in a leg kick. Been doing that effectively this fight. Left hook from Anderson lands, but Rua took it and moves out. Now Anderson shoots in again for the takedown, and on the fence tries to lift Rua up — and finally he gets it. Half guard here, and Anderson landing his left hand to the temple. Rua weathering. Now full guard, and Rua smothers Anderson close into his chest, and Anderson lands an elbow. Again, Anderson postures up and he's trying to stay busy enough for Yamasaki to allow him to stay there. Rua using his right leg to push Anderson off, as he gets to the fence. He gives up his back in the process, and Anderson tries to take advantage — but Shogun escapes, and the crowd comes to life. Back to center. Anderson wastes now time as he ducks in and tries to take Shogun back down, using his wrestling, maybe to ensure he wins the round. He gets the takedown but Rua bounces right back up. Crowd living and dying with Shogun's actions. Underhooks for Rua, who is now fending off Anderson on the fence. Wrist control from Rua, and now Anderson grabs a single-leg. If Anderson is coasting here by just out-wrestling Rua, he must believe he won one of those first two rounds. They break, and Anderson this time doesn't get his clock cleaned right before the final horn. MMA Fighting scores R3 for Anderson, 10-9 (29-28 Rua overall)
