BJ Penn has found his new opponent.
A day after news broke that Dennis Siver, Penn's original opponent at UFC 199, withdrew from the fight, the UFC is now targeting a featherweight bout between Penn and Cole Miller, MMA Fighting has learned.
Miller (21-9, 1 NC) is coming off a no contest against Jim Alers in December after Alers accidentally poked Miller in the eye in the second round of their UFC on FOX 17 fight. Miller's last win was a Jan. 2014 submission against Sam Sicilia. Coincidentally, Miller was on Team Jens Pulver on The Ultimate Fighter season 5 opposite Team BJ Penn in 2007.
The 37-year-old Penn (16-10-2) hasn't fought since his July 2014 loss to Frankie Edgar. Penn retired after the fight, however, he announced his intentions to resume his MMA career earlier this year after joining Team JacksonWink in Albuquerque, N.M.
UFC 199, co-headlined by Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight title and Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber 3 for the bantamweight title, takes place June 4 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The Penn-Miller tilt is expected to air on the FS1 prelims.
