UFC 197 live blog: Jon Jones vs. Ovince Saint Preux

This is the UFC 197 live blog for Jon Jones vs. Ovince Saint Preux, a light heavyweight bout at Saturday night's UFC event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Jones, who has won 12 straight fights, will face Saint Preux, who has won three of his past five fights, on the main card.

Round 1: This is it. After 15 disastrous months, the greatest light heavyweight to ever live returns to the cage. Jon Jones walks out to "Coming Home." I know it is a cliche, but it feels fitting. Mr. Saint Preux, you have your work cut out for you. Herb Dean is the man in charge of the action. They touch gloves. Let's do this. Jones comes out crouching, then stands. OSP misses with a lazy leg kick. Jones answers by going low with a kick of his own. OSP misses with a right. OSP is trying to mix it up early, but he's not committing to much. Front kick from Jones, followed by an oblique kick. Big spinning back kick lands for Jones. And another. This is an incredibly measured start from Jones. OSP is keeping his hands low. Jones catches a lazy body kick, but let's it go. Feels like he's playing with his food here. Head kick from Jones is blocked, and the crowd is starting to get a little restless. OSP lunges inside and connects with left hand. Jones looks for a trip, can't get it, then misses with an elbow from the clinch. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 Jones.

Round 2: Jones appears more than willing to sit back and let OSP make a mistake. OSP kicks low, then smacks Jones with a series of hard left hands once Jones catches the kick. That was a nice sequence. Jones kicks the body. An "OSP! OSP!" chant erupts from the crowd. Jones kicks low. OSP paws out his jab. Jones rushes into the clinch, but OSP connects with a solid knee to the body. Jones clinches again and starts going to work. Back elbow from Jones. They release, and Jones eats a huge left hand! The energy in this building feels like it is changing. OSP blocks a high kick. Jones goes back to the oblique kick. Spinning back kick to the body from Jones. Round 3: Jones turns up his aggression and starts going to work with low kicks and oblique kicks. Jones paws out his jab. OSP circles and lands a few left hands. Oh, big spinning back elbow from Jones! Jones walks OSP to the fence, but doesn't throw anything. Jones digs a left hand into the body. OSP connects with a kick to the midsection. Jones continues to work his oblique kicks. Nice one-two from Jones. OSP eats a pair of hard kicks to the body. Another oblique kick from Jones. OSP just misses with a right hand down the pipe. Round 4: OSP smacks a kick into Jones' ribs. Jones answers with a spinning back kick that lands flush. The boo-birds are making their presence felt here. Jones slips a right hand, then clinches. Jones walks OSP into the fence and lands a monster slam on OSP! OSP immediately scrambles to his feet! Jones finds his mark with a series of inside elbows. The crowd here is getting incredibly restless. Jones changes levels and finishes a double leg. Jones deftly moves into side control and goes to work with elbows. OSP is in a bad, bad spot. OSP pushes off the fence and nearly retakes his feet! Jones stuffs the stand-up attempt and instead takes OSP's back. OSP sits up against the fence. Jones stands and starts unloading with hard shots! Round 5: OSP has five minutes left to pull off the impossible. They spend the first minute circling each other and not committing to any offense. OSP finally pulls the trigger but misses. Jones smacks OSP with a spinning back kick. Jones whiffs with a straight left. The crowd here is not happy with all this inaction. Jones walks OSP to the fence, but does nothing. Jones lunges inside and hits OSP hard with an uppercut. Jones follows up with a high kick, then changes levels and slams OSP to the canvas! Jones stands, and OSP follows suit after eating a soccer kick to the body. Jones backs OSP into the fence, tries to mix it up with elbows and punches, but eats a counter right in the process.
