Frankie Edgar: With Conor McGregor out, Jose Aldo fight at UFC 200 ‘should be for the vacant title'

UFC president Dana White spent a majority of Friday's UFC 200 press conference defending his decision to pull Conor McGregor from the July 9 card. But McGregor's absence didn't bother Frankie Edgar.

Edgar, who fights Jose Aldo at UFC 200 for the interim featherweight title, said that he didn't care why McGregor was a no-show at the press conference and that in light of the UFC's decision, his rematch against Aldo should be for the real UFC featherweight belt.

"I don't know what's going on in his head. I don't really care, you know?" Edgar said of McGregor. "I think this fight should be for the vacant title right now, to be honest. I don't think he's ever coming down to 145, if he ever even comes back. So I think me and Aldo should go at it for the real one."

McGregor was slated to fight Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200. McGregor has lobbied to remain on the card with a lightened media schedule, however White shot down any chance of the Irishman fighting at UFC 200, stating that it would set a "bad precedent."

White added that McGregor's rematch against Diaz was off moving forward, and that McGregor's next fight would be required to come against the winner of Edgar-Aldo 2.

White also noted that it was unlikely McGregor would be allowed to fight at the UFC's debut in New York on Nov. 12 at UFC 205.

"Conor probably wouldn't fight in New York either," White said. "He'll probably fight, depending on what happens to these two (Edgar and Aldo), how they come out of this fight, at (UFC) 202 or something like that."
