Glaico Franca fueled by James Vick’s mean tweet

Glaico Franca won the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil in 2015, but James Vick didn’t seem impressed. Franca tapped Fernando Bruno with a rear-naked choke in the third round at last August’s UFC 190, and Vick, a fellow UFC lightweight, posted the following tweet during the contest.

Franca and Vick will collide at Saturday’s UFC 197 in Las Vegas, and Franca was glad to hear about "The Texecutioner’s" tweet before entering the Octagon.

"I didn’t know about this tweet. It’s actually good that you told me about this because it gives me more motivation to get the win," Franca told MMA Fighting. "Everyone has an opinion, but I know he wouldn’t be able to beat Fernando Bruno. James Vick wouldn’t beat him. I know that. And I’m glad that you told me about that tweet [laughs]."

Vick (8-0), a fellow TUF contestant, is 4-0 since leaving the reality show. During TUF 15, he beat three opponents before losing to Michael Chiesa.

"Two of his post-TUF fights were good, he was able to get the submission," Franca said. "He’s a good athlete. He tapped (Ramsey) Nijem, who was a tough guy. (Jake) Matthews was doing fine, but I think he got overconfident and ended up losing. (Vick) is a good athlete, but he’s not unbeatable, and I will show him that Saturday."

Franca (13-3), who tapped his three TUF Brazil 4 opponents before stopping Bruno in the final, finished 12 of his 13 MMA wins, and plans on finishing Vick at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

"He’s a complete fighter, has a good guillotine and a good boxing, but I’m ready in all areas," Franca said. "We try to evolve in all areas because MMA is a different sport. We have several strategies do follow. I’ve studied his game, but this sport is about evolution. Your opponent will always bring something new, but I know I will win.

"Vick is a striker, but he had a reach advantage over his previous opponents. I’m shorter, but I have a longer reach, and that will be a problem for him," he continued. "He likes to score points and has a dangerous guillotine, but I will be aggressive to get the finish. I don’t like to go the distance because we never know what’s going to happen, a close fight can go to anyone. It happens a lot, so I’ll avoid that by knocking him out or getting the submission."
