This is the Promotional Malpractice Live Chat.
It was already a big week with the return of Jon Jones at UFC 197 on Saturday, but now it's even bigger. UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor retired on Tuesday and announced it via Twitter. Ultimately, what we understand is McGregor is training in Iceland and still dealing with witnessing a fight that lead to the death of a fighter in Dublin. He's uninterested in pre-fight promotional work at the moment. Besides, he's helped the UFC previously on a number of critical occasions and likely believes he's earned it. The UFC, however, has an event to promote and assets to collect, which costs money. They aren't in a position to accommodate McGregor. And so, we are at an impasse. We'll see who blinks first.
Then there's the order of the day, which is to say the normal fight calendar. UFC 197: Jon Jones vs. Ovince Saint Preux takes places in Las Vegas on Saturday (I'll be there). The card also features important fights for Anthony Pettis, a flyweight title bout and more. We'll take a look at every angle of the story.
Last, but not least, Benson Henderson makes his Bellator debut on Friday, as he battles for the welterweight title at Bellator 153 on Spike. We'll get to this as well.
There's a lot going on, so join me today to discuss all of this and more. In terms of today's chat, anything is up for discussion, but I will lead with this and it all kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.
As is customary, I'll post the video window here as the event draws near and I'll answer any questions you may have if you post them in the comments section below. Be sure that you click the 'rec' button for those comments/questions you believe most deserve a response.
Be sure to link this page and use the hash tag #chatwrappers on Twitter or even Facebook when you're watching this to let everyone know you're taking part in this activity of ours.
