Santiago Ponzinibbio is slowly but steadily staking his claim in the UFC welterweight division.
That gave Ponzinibbio his second straight victory, and his fourth out of his past five fights.
The bout was the type of standup slugfest you'd expect from the duo, with both guys landing meaningful shots. But a huge straight right hand to the jaw by Ponzinibbio dropped McGee. McGee managed to get back to his feet, but Ponzibibbio (22-3) swarmed, landing crisp punches and kicks until referee Herb Dean waved off the bout at 4:15.
"He's very good fighter, tough fighter, but tonight was my night," Ponzinibbio said in his post-fight interview. "Every day, my training gets better. My training is very good."
McGee (17-8), a former heroin addict, celebrated the 10th anniversary of his sobriety on Saturday night. He's now 3-2 since moving to welterweight.
